Flicking through my photos recently I came across these snaps from Jenny Watson’s retrospective show at the MCA from a few months back. I was on one of my solo ‘art dates’ recommended by Julia Cameron in her seminal book The Artist’s Way. I was also fortunate enough to attend a lecture by the artist herself.
I’m always excited to see work by artists who use a multitude of materials in their work, especially everyday items. And it’s also fabulous to see everything up close and think about how it was made. I adore the end results, but I love the process just as much. Some of the things I loved seeing at this exhibition were Jenny’s use of various fabrics to paint on, her inclusion of text and her expressive brushstrokes. And the odd injection of neon paint.
Looking at these pics (and other exhibitions in my photo roll) remind me it’s time to revive the weekly artist date!
If you’d like to see what else I’m getting up to, why not follow my Instagram stories? I often post snaps & videos of unusual places I’m remotely working from and artist dates that involve everything from exhibitions to evening beach swims!
